Kind Words

“As a mom to 4 small kids, I rarely take time out to pamper myself. I’m certainly not a girly girl and as such I rarely think of myself as beautiful. Spending an afternoon with Diane Chappell doing these pictures had me walking out feeling like a super model!”

“Beautiful styling, fabulous makeup and hair, a wonderfully relaxed and private photography session left me looking and feeling FANTASTIC.”

“She has a wonderful eye for the smallest details, a calm and fun demeanor and she take AMAZING pictures. I didn’t know I could look like that! (My husband says he knew but loved that someone brought out the beauty for me to see it).”

“Thank you, Diane, for a wonderful experience. It was a great confidence boost and I love having the stunning pictures to treasure (and share!) for a lifetime.”

5 Steps to Help You Prepare for Your Dream Shoot

Thank you so much for scheduling a session with me at Chappell Studio Portraits! I cannot wait to work with you. To help us both prepare for your shoot, I’ve created a step-by-step guide that details exactly what needs to be done prior to your session.

I’m including a summary of the guide below to give you an idea of what to expect.

Step 1 – Tell me all the details!

Do you have a vision for some type of creative session that you’ve always dreamed of or just an idea of what you’d like your family photos to look like? Whether you’re sending me dream boards or a link to your favorite Pinterest pins, I want it all!

The more I know, the better I’ll be able to deliver when it comes to your final gallery.

Step 2 – A week before your session.

Take a quick photo of the wardrobe you plan to bring with you, so that I get an idea of what you’re going to wear before you arrive. If you have any questions or need suggestions, please give me a call and we’ll talk it out.

Do your best to avoid any sun that will create tan lines or adjust your wardrobe accordingly to compensate for them.

Step 3 – A day or two before your session.

Have your nails and toenails clean, polished, and trimmed.

Step 4 – The day of your session.

Wear loose fitting clothing to prevent any crazy marks on your skin. Arrive at the studio about ten minutes early with no make-up on and clean hair.

Here are a few items you’ll want to bring along with you:

  • A favorite playlist on your phone if you have one.
  • Any accessories that we can add to your wardrobe (feel free to bring extras, we’re flexible!)
  • Your wardrobe – all the clothes we’ve chatted about and anything else you find along the way.

Step 5 – Relax!

Your time with me is meant to be relaxing and empowering. While you’re at the studio, I expect you to sit back, relax, and be pampered. This is your day. It is your time to shine.

I want you to walk away from your session feeling like the amazing human you are!

The Amazing Portrait Session at Chappell Studios

Having your photos taken professionally can be a little intimidating. Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera, and I totally get it. To help ease your worries a bit, I’d love to share with you a little ‘behind the scenes’ info when you work with Chappell Studios.

Hand-painted backdrop is from https://seamlessphoto.com

When you decide to book a photography session with me, one of the first things we’ll do is talk about what you have in mind. You’ll explain your vision so that I can prepare my studio to best suit your needs. We’ll then set a date and time for your session. That’s easy enough, right?

Upon arrival for your session, you’ll enter the studio and I’ll introduce you to my team (more on them a little later). You have time to get comfortable and hang up whatever clothing you’ve brought with you for the shoot.

Once your items are situated, we’ll go through the outfits and talk about each look we’re going to create. From there, I’ll grab you a cold bottle of water or a nice hot tea/coffee (whatever you prefer) and you’ll move into hair and makeup.

I always capture a few of the ‘getting ready’ shots, so your galleries will include images of your make-up being applied, hair styled, close-ups of your wardrobe – shots of the entire process.

Once complete, you’ll get dressed and your time in front of the camera will begin! We’ll work together to bring your vision to life and create images that I know you’ll cherish forever.

You may notice that my assistant will also be taking a few photographs and maybe even a short video clip during the session. The purpose of those images is to have a collection of nice images of myself behind the camera (believe it or not, lol). I also love seeing the pullback shots after the session that provide incredibly valuable insight on how the session went. This helps future clients understand what to expect when they schedule with me.  🙂

Back to the team I mentioned previously. I like working in a team environment and love collaborating with other creatives during my photo sessions. I use different artists for each shoot depending on the vision and needs of the client. Each of the artists are certified, experienced, and some of the best in the Albany, NY area.

I most often work with: Amber Snare, Samara Holmes, Genn Shaughnessy, Breeanna Nichols, Bryon Glick, and Katie Burns.

Meet Diane Chappell, Your New York Portrait Photographer

Hello and thank you so much for visiting ChappellStudioPortraits.com.  I’m thrilled to have you here and hope that you’ll stick around and explore my work. Back to the reason you clicked on this page…

I’m Diane Chappell.

I became a photographer because I like working with people in a creative environment and I like having an opportunity to capture a moment in time that will last a lifetime for that person and their loved ones.

A professional portrait photographer located in Central New York, just minutes from Albany. My clients are primarily from New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont but I’d love to work with you – no matter where you’re from.

I’ve been in business for more than five years and have a very diverse portfolio that covers portraits for men and women, professional business photos, senior portraits, actor headshots, model portfolios, maternity photos, boudoir, fashion photography, and more.

Chappell Studios Portraits - Behind the Scenes

While each of these are fun to work on, my favorite projects are those where I get to create engaging portraits for women, men, families, and actors/models. These sessions give me the opportunity to connect with each of my clients on an individual basis to help them feel at ease in front of the camera.

Fashion photography is another one of my favorite genre to shoot as it allows me to explore my creative side and try new techniques that I’ve learned over time. It’s so exciting to watch these projects come to life.

My work style is mostly in a team environment.  Every photo shoot requires a team of creatives, some shoots only need a few people and other shoots need more people to make it happen. First I start planning by brainstorming with my creative team.  I encourage open communication, and for everyone to stay passionate about their ideas.

Some are more comfortable than others while being photographed, but my basic approach is the same. I encourage you to be yourself. Allow me to capture the essence of what makes you unique, in your own and perfect way. If you have a vision for your session, share it with me so that we can work together to make it a reality.

I want each of my clients to know that I work diligently behind the camera during each session to make sure that we get the best photos possible straight-out-of-camera. I’m paying close attention to every tiny detail and will make gentle recommendations on posing, etc. to make sure we got the shots possible.

I believe in this quote from Steve Jobs –

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”

If you have any questions about what sessions with me are like or how we might be able to work together, please feel free to reach out. I’d love to chat with you!

Albany Fashion: 5 Steps to getting your photos published

What getting Published means to me

  • Gave me a sense of accomplishment, achievement and value that I had never felt before.
  • Helped me feel qualified to be in my photography business.
  • Built my name in the industry worldwide.

5 Steps to getting your photos published

–  The first thing you’ll want to do is research magazines that accept submissions and may want to publish your work.
–  Make sure your style fits their style- so do your research online,  today most magazines are digital.
–  Once you find a magazine you want to submit to follow their directions on how to submit.

SALYSÉ Magazine http://www.salyse.com/ is a photography magazine, featuring beauty, fashion and conceptual editorials.

We do not seek to define beauty and fashion with one narrow idea, but with myriad viewpoints. Vintage is right next to newly discovered designers. We are looking for creatives that push the envelope, take chances, and disregard the status quo.

SALYSÉ Magazine is about sophistication, authenticity, with a touch of eccentricity.

–  The majority of magazines require that photos are exclusive and unpublished
–  Always include the credits- names of all people involved in the production, the photographer,  model, makeup artist, hair stylist, wardrobe stylist, and clothing designer.  You may want to add social media links as well so they can tag your business in their post.
